The Core Personalities: Their Light & Dark Characteristics
July 23, 2021

In the second installment of our five part series, we will discuss what determines your core personality. According to The Power of Silence
by Carlos Casteneda and Song Of The Deer: The Great Sun Dance Journey of the Soul
by Thunder Strikes with Jan Orsi, the “Core Personality” is decided before you are born and developed in the womb. It appears by year one and is ingrained by year three (Strikes & Orsi). It is how we learn to operate and engage with life. It emerges when a person is faced with an emergency or other high stress situation (Strikes & Orsi). There is also an innate light and dark side of who we are. This part of the ego is difficult to relate to as it is always waiting to protect our essence at any cost.
There are three core personalities; the Do-gooder, the Fart and the Space Cadet (Strikes & Orsi). The names, given by the twisted hairs, are from male and female elders with powers of knowledge from what was once called Turtle island (Strikes & Orsi). The names are meant to help us lighten up about ourselves (Strikes & Orsi). There are some basic descriptions of the three core personalities listed below. What traits do you identify with your core personality?
The Do-gooder (Idealist)
- They are loveable and nice people.
- They help others but not themselves. They need direction.
- They want to be acknowledged for their good deeds, which boosts their self-worth.
- They can make a difference and will do so.
The Fart
- They are great leaders (love the power but not the responsibility).
- They understand energy and should lead from a place of service.
- They can be very nasty and insist that people should conform to their rules and laws.
- They are hypercritical of self.
The Space Cadet (Daydreamer)
- They are neither nice nor unpleasant. They serve no one.
- They wait for things to happen and procrastinate.
- They overpromise and don’t deliver.
- They are amazing creators and visionaries. They are very detailed when they create.
When my ego perceives a story based on the reality I have created, it reminds me that I can relate with my innate self in a new light of healing and learning. The many years I have spent studying has helped me understand how to overcome the obstacles of working with my shadow self and embrace the light side of nature. It has empowered me and enabled me to relate to other lifetimes and to make better choices in my life, in a Dharma way of living.
I have also studied with Gael Carter and Marilyn Keffer at The Institute for Shamanic Medicine. They identify these names as Idealist, Fart and Daydreamer. I will use these names interchangeably based on the wisdom teaching I may refer to. My core personality allows me to focus on my strengths, so I can transcend my ego. I use my understanding of these teachings to overcome the obstacles that could have crippled me and forced me to stay in the shadows. When I realized I could heal and grow from this knowledge, I recognized that I wanted to be of service to others. I am truly grateful for the awareness and experiences that have led me to where I am today.
