Managing Grief with Reiki
June - How to Manage and Create more Flow

In the past three months, I have experienced much loss in my family. My eldest son, my dear elder dog and elder cat all crossed over the Rainbow Bridge one at a time.
What I have learned, on a profoundly healing level, is how effective and soothing Reiki has been for myself and my loved ones; those who have passed away, and those still here on this Earth. Reiki has been a foundational tool for all of my personal growth and emotional maturity. Through all the healing aspects of self, Reiki was what helped me get through it all. Reiki allowed me to manage my grief lovingly and compassionately. It showed me that I am in control of my needs, and that I have support all around me, if I need it. I asked for help through my spiritual practice with what I needed, and I realized I had the strength to accomplish much more on my own than I thought I could.
I can wholeheartedly confirm that Reiki helps manage the grief of having loved ones cross over, and helps folks transition to the other side with power, dignity and in peace. Reiki empowers individuals as they navigate this significant transition. In the early years of the Reiki Group Healing Team, we had the privilege of assisting clients’ loved ones cross over with beauty and grace. In one particular case, I was astounded by the energy that a Grandmother had for her crossing. We could sense her aura's energy so strongly that she needed little help from us. She did it in her way with ease, grace, beauty and flow. It was truly an empowering experience for all of us who were there to witness it. We had done an integrated Shamanic Reiki healing for her six months before she went to the hospice, to help extend her time on Earth. She only wanted enough time to complete a few more things before her transition, and she did. The Reiki energy made it a smooth transition for her, and it was appreciated by her family, who found it a relief.
I have witnessed powerful and peaceful crossings with the help of Reiki many times, and most recently with my dog, Osito, and our lovely cat, Alice. Alice was nineteen and a half, and a big part of our Reiki world. She made sure we were close to her, sending her Reiki, as she passed away peacefully. Osito, “little O”, as a lot of us referred to him, had heart failure and was struggling for air. We were with him at the vet, administering Reiki for him too, as he passed peacefully.
Unfortunately, very recently, my son also died unexpectedly. We still don’t know why he collapsed while joyfully walking across the street. Nothing medically or physically was evident. I do know that each soul has chosen a time when it desires to cross. With my son’s crossing, as we were not with him at the time, I was able to send him Reiki love for a swift crossing over the bardo, a time of soul resolve or recapitulation, once we learned of his fate. There is much to his story that I will share at another time, with other topics that may be helpful to you. My personal journey to heal myself and my practice of helping others also helped him heal. It is a truly remarkable story that I may share one day. My skills and gifts in energy-healing modalities were a comfort for me. No parent ever wishes to see their children pass before them. The most precious gift that my son left for us is our beautiful granddaughter, who is now an adult. How fortunate we are to have a piece of him still here with us.
It is truly a healing experience to share this, but most of all, I want to express how comforting Reiki has been in helping me and my family over these past three months. I credit the ease, flow and grace we have been able to experience in these grieving times to the fantastic healing energy of Reiki.
I have compiled some practices that I have used during my personal Reiki journey, and most recently to help with grief. These tips for self-care during the loss of a loved one can help you. These practices are for everyone, no matter what level or amount of experience you have with Reiki:
Tips for Self-Care During the Loss of a Loved One
- Set a healing intention for yourself, right before bedtime. Allow the intention to unfold in the dreamtime.
- Use Reiki and/or intend self-healing every day. Focus your attention on the heart chakra; send yourself love and acceptance.
- Ensure you are grounded every day. I went into nature, and when the weather did not permit, I used my grounding mat.
- Allow yourself time to acknowledge the loss and process your emotions. After a while, ensure you resume your everyday routines again.
- Check in with yourself 3 to 4 times a day to monitor how your emotions are being expressed. Notice if you are short with folks, or jumping into stories of blame or guilt. You should pause and allow yourself to feel even deeper.
- Consult a Reiki practitioner for guidance. Even if you are attuned to Reiki and a practitioner yourself, it helps to be part of a community and receive personalized strategies to support your personal practice.
- Spend time with a dear, close friend who is supportive and there for you.
- Take time off so you have space to take care of yourself. If you are your own boss, block out time in your schedule so you are not disturbed.
- Set up an altar with items that resonate with you or your loved one, whatever you are intuitively drawn to. Use it as a focus point to send energy, prayers, or to meditate.
- Do a crossing-over ceremony, either on your own or have someone do it for you.
- Remember them. Find something special to wear, like a pin, or carry a small item as a reminder that they walk with you. We are one with all that is of source.
- Consult a medium or intuitive. If you have questions about what happened to your loved one, a consult or simply a chat with someone who is strongly connected to Spirit can help you resolve feelings or come to terms with your grief.
