Chakra Systems

What is a chakra?
The term ‘Chakra’ is Sanskrit for wheel and refers to the spinning, spherical energy center that makes up a chakra. This energy is ancestrally known as ‘prana’, like the pranayama breathing techniques (breath control) from practices such as yoga and meditation.

Why are chakras important in Reiki practices?
In Reiki, we focus on the chakra system and the energy egg. The energy egg is the three-layered electromagnetic field (or auric field) of energy that surrounds and penetrates our body’s chakras. These energy centers work together to create a healthy chakra system for our energetic and physical body. Each chakra has distinct characteristics that relate to different aspects of the spirit, soul and mind. These aspects will influence and regulate our physical bodies and determine our perception of reality.

How many chakras do we have?
In Reiki, we focus on all twelve chakras. However, there are seven main Chakras that have specific locations placed along the body. These locations are above the head, between the legs, the front of the body through to the back of the body. The chakras that are on the front of the body have a corresponding energy vortex on the back of the body. The front vortices correlate with our emotional centers, while the back vortices encompass our will centers. In a perfectly healthy person, each of the seven chakras works in unison to provide a balance of energy for every part of the body, mind, spirit and soul.
